Topping Rose House -Bridgehampton NY

I had the privilege of visiting the recently opened hotel, Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton. Built as a Residence in 1842 for one of Bridgehampton’s prominent citizens, Topping Rose House has emerged from restoration as a delightful travel alternative in the Hamptons. Contemporary design by French designer Champalimaud, Topping Rose combines old house elements with new contemporary event spaces and cottages. Event space capacity is around 200 people. The 22 rooms and cottages are cleanly designed, relaxing, bright and cheerful. Service is spot on, with a young enthusiastic staff, ready to please.
The highlight to me is the Tom Colicchio restaurant. Mr. Colicchio’s philosophy of seasonal farm to table offerings are always an amazing experience. The goat cheese ravioli appetizer and spiced lobster entree were our favorites. Exceptional wine list and seasonal vegetables from a plethora of local sources make this a must return spot!

My visit to Vicente’s

One of my favorite summer trips is a visit to one of my oldest friends, and longest running clients, Vicente Wolf. His house in Montauk looks like it is right out of a magazine, and it is! It has been been published many times.
Vicente is one of the top designers in the world.  A genius with spatial design, he holds licences in accessory , fabric , lamp , flatwear, crystal , and furniture design.  ! He is also a well established photographer, and has published three books incorporating travel with design.
He travels during the year on an extensive round the world exploration, photographing the destinations he is visiting. He is also busy buying for his shop, VW Home and for personal clients. From antiquing in Bali, India, Papua New Guinea, trekking in Iryan Jaya to boating up a river by himself in Borneo, he has done it all
Many of these destinations are highlighted in his books: Learning to See, Crossing Boundaries, and Lifting the Curtain on Design. He is endlessly fascinated with tribal cultures, local handicrafts, tribal art and extreme exotic locations.
The harder to reach, the better.  It is about learning and experiencing new cultures, pushing the envelope and at the same time escape, says Vicente

They don’t have Hydrangas like that in the South

Sunflowers East Hampton

I always forget how green and fresh the Hamptons are in July.

I travel to Montauk each summer to visit a client and friend. We plan his coming year’s travel adventures. He has been to so many places, it is really becoming a challenge. We are looking for more and more unique and exotic places. I love a good challenge. He is showing, and doing a book signing at the Bridgehampton Antique show this weekend, so I get to help.
Each time we pull into the Hamptons, we are greeted with clean cool breezes, and the most amazing trees and flowers. It was 73 degrees at 6PM last night. A divine break from 95+ in Georgia. Everything is green and fresh. The colors of the hydrangeas are a feast for my eyes. We cannot grow them like this in the South. All the lawns are manicured and the houses are so charming behind the very large hedges.
Restaurants are fabulous. Last night we ate at Sarafina, really delightful Italian. Tonight it will be East by Northeast in Montauk- rated best on the village.
